A DROMANA chef well-versed on social media has boosted his career via video blogs.
Adam Massimo, 34, took to social media platform Google+ in April to share his love of food with others. With more than 50 videos on YouTube, he has very quickly become an online sensation.
"I went from having 2000 followers to 30,000 followers within a week and I now have more than 1.2 million people following me," Massimo said. "I just enjoy sharing what I've learnt."
The social media platform works similarly to Facebook or Twitter but you don't need to add people as friends to have them subscribed to your page.
Through his page, Massimo shares secrets handed down from his Italian grandparents. His main focus is on sustainable living, which he ties into cooking. Google saw his potential and before long featured him as a top chef, increasing his popularity tenfold.
He has no hesitations about giving out his recipes to the rest of the world. "It is not so much about the recipes but the technique and method behind them that makes it special. I try to make it fun and inviting."
Now working as the head chef at Two Buoys restaurant in Dromana, Massimo gained much of his knowledge from working in Europe.
"Until recently I was living overseas and working as a private chef, cooking for some of the wealthiest people in the world," he said. "I went to America with nothing, got my first job and worked by way up through the ranks. I really pushed myself to excel."
He aims to keep going with regular blogs and videos and work on writing a cookbook.
"I just want to continue what I am doing at work and incorporate what I have learnt into my blog and see where it takes me."
