MPNL: Rosebud romps home as finals spot beckons

ROSEBUD willed itself back into finals contention, shocking Red Hill at home with a 59-point victory in its Nepean League match on Saturday.

The Buds were in the grip of a mid-season slump before a resounding victory over Dromana brought them back into contention and they have since won three of their past four games.

The multi-pronged attack of the Buds' forward line proved telling, with Brenton Davidge, Jamie Clarke and Greg Bentley each contributing four goals. Bentley moved up, giving the Buds increased flexibility and stretching the Hillmen's back half.

Rosebud coach Mark Hustwaite was delighted with the big man's form. "Having him up forward is really starting to hurt other teams," he said.

Rosebud midfielder Daniel Giarrusso made a stunning return from injury, winning possession on several occasions.

Red Hill was without gun midfielder Luke Adams and forward Jarryd Douglas, both whom were sorely missed by the Hillmen.

The Buds will look to continue their surge towards the finals when they take on Somerville in the second part of the Nepean split round, while Red Hill will sit out with a bye.
