Former peninsula cop arrested on child sex charges

DETECTIVES have arrested a 62-year-old former Victorian police officer in relation to an investigation into alleged sexual offences committed during the 1960s and 70s.

The man was taken into custody today with assistance from local police, in Ambarvale New South Wales

It is alleged the man committed sexual offences against a number of children, some while on duty in the Southern Metropolitan and Mornington Peninsula areas. He resigned from Victoria Police in 1979.

Southern Metro Acting Inspector Jason Kelly said the arrest was the result of a 10-month operation by Moorabbin Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team detectives.

“This has been an extensive investigation that has resulted in the arrest of a man decades after the alleged crimes were committed,” he said.

“Victoria Police takes all reports of sexual assault seriously. The community can feel confident in contacting police to report such matter.

“We encourage anyone who is the victim of sexual assault to contact triple zero or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au.”
