Having their cake but this time not eating it

CAKE decorators from across Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula have drawn on their skills, and imagination, in a fiercely contested competition.

Crafty Cakes Decorating Supplies proprietor Louise McCallum (pictured), who organised the competition, praised the standard of all 21 entries as incredible.

Guest judges were Hastings MP Neale Burgess, Chisholm Institute chef Tracey Edgell and Somerville Vision Australia opportunity shop manager Merna Ritchie.

Winners were selected for the creativity and overall look of the edible icing decorations on styrofoam cakes.

In the advanced category, Beth Rebbeck won first place with her Bird House cake. Second was Lisa McIntosh with Cat in the Hat and third was shared between Samantha Schmitter with Fairy Castle and Denise Hunt for Phantom of the Opera.

In the novice category, first place went to Katherine Haddock for her Toy Box. Second was Katy-Ann Schorah and Renee Victor came third.

Alyssa Heath took out the junior category. Rachael Wilson came second with Jack Heath and Richelle Willets equal third.
