A young Afghan boy, wounded in a firefight between Australian soldiers and four insurgents, has died, Defence says.
The boy, who was nearly two years old, was shot on March 27 in a firefight between insurgents and Australian troops near the village of Sah Zafar.
The Australian troops were partnered by Afghan police at the time of the incident.
The child suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to Tarin Kowt for medical treatment before being moved to another military hospital in Kandahar.
As a result of complications from the wound to his upper body and following consultation with medical staff, the boy's family made the decision to turn off life support on April 2.
The child's identity has not been revealed.
