TONY Hawk rolled into Frankston last Sunday week, but rain prevented him showing off his skills on a skateboard.
Hawk has been skating since he was nine and has won competitions and been crowned the best skateboarder on the planet.
Retired from competition since 1999, Hawk, 31, still regularly skates and organises competitions and tours.
His fans spent an hour drying out the bowl at Samuel Sherlock Reserve before he arrived, but the mops, rags, heaters, buckets and towels were no match for the rain that fell on his arrival. Undeterred by the rain, Hawk checked out the bowl and began talking to his fans.
After he had answered questions and signed equipment, Hawk and his fans were invited into the nearby cricket clubrooms for a charity auction.
The day was held by Melbourne Old School Skate Sessions, a non-profit organisation raising money to supply fresh water to villages in Swaziland and South Africa. To contact MOSS, visit www.mosswater project.com
