Thrills for big crowd

12 May, 2010 05:00 AM
AN appreciative crowd of about 300 gathered at Rosebud skate park on Saturday to cheer competitors in the South Eastern League skateboard series.

Mornington Peninsula Shire youth worker Andrew Joseph said things got "super, super excited" when Rosebud skaters Max and Keiran won the under-16 and open-age sections, respectively.

"It was a really great day and the weather turned on an absolute pearler," he enthused.

Peninsula bands While the City Sleeps and Majoring in Minors entertained the crowd at the adjacent sound shell.

The shire's Beachcomber bus was on hand for those seeking more sedate indoor pursuits such as computer games.

Unlike a motocross event held at Cape Schanck the same day, where five ambulances were called to treat seven injured children, several of whom required hospitalisation (see story page 7), there were no injuries at the skate event.

The Rosebud meeting was the 10th heat of the series, which culminates in a grand final at Riverside skate park in central Melbourne on Saturday, May 29.
