Junior ace shows he's full of class

29 Apr, 2009 12:34 PM
MORNINGTON table tennis star and Australian under-13 champion Dillon Cathcart put on a brilliant performance in front of his home crowd last month.

Competing in the Mornington Peninsula open junior tournament, in which he faced some of Victoria's best junior players, he won the under-15 singles and doubles and the under-18 mixed doubles.

The Mount Eliza Secondary College year 9 student, who has played since he was six, trains four days a week in Melbourne with other elite squad members.

Table tennis is a family affair - his older brother Jarryd is a multiple club champion and his 11-year-old brother Rian is turning heads with his impressive form in competitions.

His father Peter is also the doubles champion at the Mornington Peninsula Table Tennis Association.

The association is booming across all ages with Friday night and Saturday morning competitions packed out.

The centre, off Dunns Road, Mornington, is so busy that planning is under way to add six more tables.

Dylan is The Mail's Sports Star of the Week.
