PENINSULA Waves coach Robynn Pym was quick to point out how far her charges have come in a year after a one-point loss to Boroondara Genesis in round four of the Holden Cruze Cup.
The Waves went down 52-51 to the grand finalists in what was the match of the round.
In the corresponding game last year the Genesis were out-of-sight winners.
Pym said: "They are one of the strongest sides and yet we were able to match it with them for most of the game. It was a great effort from the girls."
Returning to the team was Keira Wills, who has recovered from a serious knee injury. Pym said it was encouraging to have her back and that her enthusiasm and dedication was an inspiration.
On Wednesday evening at 8.20 the Waves have a tough assignment against the ladder-leading Hume City Falcons. While the Championship division team has found life tough, the division 1 side has won two games and the U19 team, fresh from a draw with Booroondara, now has points on the board and expects a good season.
