Sorrento in celebration mode after first victory

28 Jul, 2010 12:00 AM
SORRENTO Netball Club, with Boyington, Spedding, Kerr and Robinson leading the charge, won its first game ever when they defeated Hastings 31-27 at Sorrento on Saturday.

Nearby, Ashleigh Farrelly, with 30 goals from 37 attempts, led reigning premiers Rosebud to a 50-43 win over Tyabb.

Lauren Robinson, with seven rebounds and 20 goals at 83 per cent, offered brilliant support. Snooks and Arnold, two experienced and battle-scarred warriors in defence, registered many game-saving interceptions.

Tyabb has shown itself to be a winning team, which is good, except when they play teams that are very good.

Frankston Bombers defeated Pearcedale, 61-31, Rye downed Crib Point 63-16, and Edi-Asp tossed Rosebud 50-26.

This week the two top A grade teams clash. Undefeated Rye, replete with star players in every position, host Edi-Asp, and having thumped Edi-Asp previously by 27 goals, it is difficult to see how Edi-Asp can match the resources at Rye's disposal. Tony Nemaric
