FOR two days the Peninsula Waves believed there was no doubt about their 51-49 defeat of North East Blaze in the Holden Cruze Cup state netball league.
That was until Victorian Netball Association officials called them and said they believed the game had ended in a draw.
But Waves coach Robynn Pym said she and the rest of the coaching staff were adamant the Frankston side had won.
"There is a little bit of contention about it, but we firmly believe that one of the scorers made an error and put down a goal for the Blaze when it was one of ours.
"We have checked through the video and that is what it looks like. We are really confident the win will be reinstated."
The controversy aside, Pym was really happy with her side which rebounded after some disappointments.
"I knew they would. They played the kind of netball I know we are capable of."
The Waves were still without state under-19 state players Renee Cook and Hollyanne Hood, but on the plus side Keira Wills showed plenty of spark in her first game in the Championship after knee surgery.
Goal keeper Rachel Forbes earned three points from the officials at the State Netball and Hockey Centre and fellow defender Christina Vickery earned two.
This Saturday, the Waves travel to Ballarat.
