Presnell chips at record

17 Feb, 2010 04:00 AM
VICTORIAN professional Alistair Presnell swooped on a stellar field at the Victorian PGA at Sandhurst Club in Skye on the weekend, equalling the Australian tour record and breaking the course record with his final round of 60, 12 under par.

He joined the ranks of Ernie Els and Paul Gow in hitting the lowest round in Australian tour history.

Presnell birdied holes 11, 12, 13 and 14 to take the lead after starting the day six off the pace behind Kurt Barnes and David Bransdon, who went on to tie for second on 67.

Presnell conceded that nerves on the 17th forced him to miss an opportunity to total 59 and etch himself into the history books. The 30yearold Hawthorn resident also won last year's Moonah Classic at Boneo and now heads off to South America to catch up with the pro tour.
