PENINSULA Surfriders' Club has vowed to hold a contest on Saturday no matter what conditions contestants face.
Organisers and surfers will gather at 7am at Gunnamatta to check the surf and decide where to hit the water.
If the swell is too big for the open beaches facing Bass Strait, the contest will move to Western Port.
On the following Saturday, December 19, the Jim Beam Surf Tag Titles are scheduled for Gunnamatta, with Seaford Surf Club from South Australia defending its title against Peninsula Surfriders, 13th Beach, Phillip Island and Torquay.
The contest will see eight teams competing for a berth in the national titles at North Narrabeen, Sydney, from February 12-14.
Seaford's team coming to the peninsula includes World Qualifying Series surfers Jarrad House and Dion Atkinson.
Surfboard manufacturer Chok Oke on Friday held a party at his Braeside factory to mark the opening of a new showroom and surfboards featuring designs by artists including Ross Wilsomore, Tommika-Lee Valente and Josh Brown.
Martin Potter, the 1989 world surfing champion, told the crowd that boards shaped by Oke "have revitalised my surfing - this family business is why we started surfing. Oke surfboards are the grassroots of surfing".
