AN injury-plagued Mornington almost toppled a spirited Croydon City on Saturday before the visitors equalised 3-3 in the final minutes.
The Gulls were 1-0 down at the break but equalised early in the second half then nudged ahead twice.
Coach Adam Jamieson's injury woes continue, with Nick Waite (calf), Will Henshaw (ankle), Kevin Jacques, Cam Leopold, Matt Cameron, Jamie Patterson and Lee Valance all out for this week's clash.
Michael Anderson, who returned after a season-long injury, is also doubtful after pulling up poorly against Croydon. The Gulls are sitting in fourth position, six points off division 3 co-leaders Noble Park and South Springvale.
Meanwhile, Langwarrin continued its assault on the state league division 1 championship with a 4-1 win over the hapless Preston Lions on Saturday.
Matty Durand scored twice for Langy while Simon Mur and Caleb Nicholes also found the net to keep their side niggling at ladder leaders Springvale White Eagles, who defeated Bulleen 2-1 on Monday night.
Nicholes and a Preston player were dispatched to the bleachers by the referee late in the match after a physical challenge involving the pair and the Preston keeper.
Coach Gus MacLeod said his side could have scored more goals but was dragged down to their opponent's standard after taking a 4-0 lead.
Preston, a former national league club, is headed for consecutive demotions, with the club struggling both on and off the park.
Frankston Pines has clawed five points clear of the relegation zone after defeating Berwick 2-1 on Saturday in the state league division 2.
Ed Southerington and Chris Hodgson both scored in the second half for Pines, who now have a two-game buffer.
Also in division 3, Peninsula Strikers went down 0-2 to Nunawading City on Saturday, while Mornington drew 3-3 with Croydon City.
