RYE made it two unlikely wins in two weeks after smashing reigning premiers Frankston Bombers in the MPNFL Nepean division on Saturday.
After being touched up by the Yabbies and Demons in successive weeks, it seems the red and black are still basking in their 2009 glory.
The Bombers were restricted to three points in the second half and only three goals for the entire game, going down 11.8(74) to 3.3(21).
Rye has proved once again that losing some high-priced recruits gives the local kids who play for the jumper an opportunity to shine. And shine they have. Andrew Dunn was outstanding again for the winners, while Ben Holmes and Grant Wilson were also strong.
In other Nepean division matches, Red Hill backed up its strong round one performance against Somerville with an equally impressive game against Crib Point, winning 16.5(101) to 12.8 (80).
Sorrento and Tyabb went head to head in the 3RPP match of the day, with the Sorras getting up in a thriller 7.16(58) to 8.8(56).
Pearcedale was sensational on Saturday, fighting hard for the entire match in front of its 1990 Premiership team to beat Hastings 20.15(135) to 17.13(115). Rosebud bounced back in the best way possible, winning a tight one against Dromana 13.10(88) to 12.8(80).
Kerem Baskaya booted eight goals and Ricky Morris six for Pearcedale in its 20-point against Hastings. Jason Manby and Aaron Pike were the best of the Blues.
Rosebud came out to play against Dromana and erase the disappointment of the previous week's loss against arch rival Rye.
Ben Shultz and Greg Bentley in a best-on-ground performance booted three each, while Brenton Payne and Daniel Giarusso were also outstanding. The win was a good 40th birthday present for Mark Hustwaite.
Sorrento's Josh Moore was best on ground on Saturday against Tyabb and kicked the goal that put his side in front with five minutes to go against a gallant opposition.
Scott Phillips was the difference between the sides with four goals.
Tyabb was superb.
If the Yabbies can keep their side on the park all season, they are clearly good enough to play finals football.
Sean Holmes booted four goals for Red Hill in its win against Crib Point.
