LANGWARRIN Kangaroos proved that they are genuine finals contenders on Saturday after they came from behind to win a thriller against Karingal Bulls in MPNFL Peninsula Division football.
Coming into the match holding down fifth position, many wondered whether the side that grabbed the final place in the top bracket was merely making up numbers.
After wins against Mt Eliza and now Karingal at home, as well as pushing Seaford last weekend, the Kangas can now have belief that they are good enough to mix it with the best.
The Bulls had one of their best sides in for the season, with Stephen Charalambous and Brendon Lade back into the side that lost to Mt Eliza the week before.
At three-quarter time, with Lade dominating and Grant Goodall and Brendan Dunne playing well, the Bulls led by two points. However, the young Kangas came storming home in the last quarter, booting three goals to one to win 11.5 (71) to 9.9 (63).
Pines made sure it kept its finals hope alive also, beating Bonbeach by seven points in another thriller.
The Sharks led all afternoon, but couldn't go with the Pythons in the last quarter, losing 7.10 (52) to 6.9 (45).
Seaford announced it isn't a spent force, coming from behind to beat Frankston YCW in a thriller at Jubilee Park. The Tigers trailed by 14 points at the last change but booted four goals to one in the final quarter to win by a point, 9.10 (64) to 8.15 (63). Dylan Crump was elevated from the twos and dominated for the Tigers while Tommy Shaw was again superb.
Mt Eliza completed the expected in one of the two Sunday games, convincingly beating Mornington to the tune of 91 points. The Doggies were competitive in the second and third quarters and their endeavour was good, but the Mounties were in complete control in the first and final terms.
Chelsea is just a game outside the top four after winning its third game on the trot on Sunday, beating Edithvale-Aspendale by 37 points.
The Gulls booted nine goals to five in the second half to win comfortably.
