MT Eliza is in real danger of missing out on a top-three place in MPNFL Peninsula football after going down to Chelsea on Saturday.
In a week in which the Gulls announced their new coach Jason Chapple for 2011, the playing list was able to remain focused and get the job done to all but seal a place in the top five.
Coming into the game equal on points with Langwarrin, Bonbeach and Pines, the Gulls were able to pull-off an unlikely win against the Redlegs and go four points clear of their rivals with three rounds to play.
While the Seagulls were celebrating their 9.20(74) to 7.13(55) victory, Mt Eliza again stare down the barrel of yet another wasted season. The Mounties have been well placed in the past couple of years but have not won a final in that time. The wheels seem to have fallen off yet again and they have only four goals and seven goals respectively in the past two weeks.
On Saturday against the Gulls, the Redlegs had 11 scoring shots to three in the opening term for a return of 3.8 and an 18-point lead.
By half-time, the home side was 18 points down and at three-quarter-time the margin was 16 points. The Redlegs now play an in-form Edithvale Aspendale at Edithvale, a game they simply must win.
The Eagles are up and about after beating neighbour Bonbeach and almost ending their finals hopes. The visitors kicked five goals to one in the opening term and led by seven goals at half-time. The final margin was 33 points.
Seaford booted 21 goals in the first half against Mornington and a further 17 in the second hour, winning 37.15(237) to 11.7(73). Jason Marsh and Tommy Shaw shot six each for the Tigers, Pat Cadd snagged five and Joe Hallal was best on ground for the second week on the trot.
Mornington announced that its coach Josh Beard was re-signed for 2011, which was a sensational decision. He has a young, developing squad that has improved in areas this season. But on Saturday, the Dogs came up against a side that is going as well as any other in the competition – just in time for finals.
Karingal had another day out against Pines, booting 17 goals to one in the opening half and finishing with 24.10(154) to Pines 10.11(71). The Bulls have given themselves every opportunity of finishing in the top three, especially on the back of the Mt Eliza.
Frankston YCW clinically put Langwarrin away on Saturday, winning by 66 points. The Stonecats' inaccuracy saved the Kangas from a 100-point thrashing. Ben Tellis was on fire for the top of the table Stonecats with four goals and cousins Byron and Anthony Barry were outstanding rebounding from half-back.
Nathan Pike with five goals was clearly Langwarrin's best.
