THE race for fifth place on the MPNFL Peninsula Division ladder is well and truly on after Bonbeach beat Langwarrin and Chelsea upset Karingal on Saturday.
While the first four teams are safe in the top bracket, Langwarrin looks vulnerable in fifth place, despite being a game clear of the Gulls, Pythons and Sharks.
Langwarrin lost captain and spiritual leader Ash Moore to injury for the season the previous week against Mornington and whether it can win enough games to stay in the five without him is questionable.
The real mover in the past month has been Chelsea, which jumped Pines on the table.
Chelsea set up the win with the wind in the second quarter, booting six goals to one behind to go into the main break with a 26-point advantage. Karingal had 27 scoring shots to Chelsea's 18, but 2.7 in the third quarter with the wind destroyed any chance it had. Langwarrin kicked five goals to one in the last quarter against Bonbeach but couldn't prevent a 32-point loss.
Robbie Lancaster and Shane McDonald slotted seven goals between them for the Sharks and Sam Rouette was outstanding.
Frankston YCW took out its frustration of losing to Karingal the previous week on Mornington, smashing the young pups by a whopping 160 points. Lew Roberts kicked eight and Steve Roberts four and Ash Eames was superb in the ruck.
The Dogs kicked four goals in the last quarter to give them five for the match.
Edithvale-Aspendale outscored Seaford in the second half on Saturday but still lost by 51 points.
Michael Kraska kicked four and Damien McCormack and Tom Shaw three each for the Tigers and Dean Kemble and Joe Hallal dominated.
Jeremy Heys with four goals was outstanding for the Eagles.
