Captain inspires Dolphins to narrow victory over Coburg

28 Apr, 2010 04:00 AM
DOLPHINS captain Paul Kennedy showed why MPNFL legend Simon Goosey chose him to captain the next generation of Frankston Football Club players when he led the side to an inspiring four-point victory over the Coburg Tigers.

The Richmond-aligned Tigers were stacked with established AFL players, including Brownlow medallist Ben Cousins, but the big names fell short of the non-aligned local boys led by Kennedy, who is highly regarded on and off the field.

The one-time Sandringham player was sought for his leadership skills by MPNFL clubs this season, but his dedication to the Dolphins won out.

Goosey could not have picked a better player to lead the team that lost more than half of its squad from 2009, and this was evident when Cousins tried to rough up a few of the younger players last week, with Kennedy first on the scene to help out.

A great distributor of the ball from the midfield, he proved he is not a one-trick pony after he led his triumphant teammates to the edge of the bleachers to sing the club song in front of 4000 delirious Dolphins fans.
