SEAFORD still has every chance of playing MPCA District finals this season after achieving the mammoth task of chasing down 317 for victory on Saturday.
Playing against second-on-the-ladder Balnarring, Seaford needed its top order to fire and they delivered, chasing down the total in the 74th over.
Faisal Payenda (54) and Jim Boyd (36) got the side away to a good start, Ryan McQueen added 36, skipper Nick Simpendorfer contributed 63, Chris Cliff helped himself to 61 and the tail had some wag, although there were a few nervous moments when Seaford lost three quick wickets to be 6-271.
Brent Murdoch produced the best figures for Balnarring with 2-9 and brother Shane toiled hard to snare 2-107.
Langwarrin's opportunity to play finals came crashing down on Saturday, going down to Hastings by two runs. While the Kangas' season came to a halt, the Blues stayed in the finals race, remaining just one game outside the top bracket.
It was Timmy Birch who single-handedly won the game for the visitors, scoring an unbeaten 78 after his side resumed on 3-40, chasing 149. At one stage the Blues were 7-100, but Birch controlled the match and did the job. Ricky Ramsdale picked up five wickets and David Ross three for the Kangas.
Delacombe Park is also right in the mix after beating Boneo by a wicket. It resumed on 1-24, chasing 245 for the win, and Jamie Guthrie (57), Simon Poynton (56) and Evan Campbell (37) ensured victory. Glenn Collett was outstanding with the ball with 5-55.
Rye sits on top of the District table after beating Carrum in a very strong performance.
Defending 9-220, the Lions needed to be at their best with the ball, but the Rye batsmen proved how good they are and chased down the total with just four wickets down.
Travis Sawers scored 52, Aaron Vernon 45, Steven Gale 40 and Andrew Hitchener 35 not out to help their side win the match. Daniel Graves with 3-42 was the pick of the Lions' bowlers.
Main Ridge scored 274 on Saturday but it still wasn't enough to beat Red Hill. The Hillmen set the Ridge 345 for victory, always a tough ask for the cellar dweller.
Ed Aaron was solid for the Ridge with 70 and Chris Barker was his usual dynamite self, scoring 55, and David Stark was unbeaten on 39.
Ross Corfield and Felix McKillop with three wickets each were the best of the Red Hill bowlers.
Mt Eliza kept its place in the top four with a hard-fought victory against Pines.
Defending 192, Pines was bowled out 19 runs short for 171, Paul Bradley scoring 71.
Matt Travena was given his opportunity in the seniors after taking nine wickets in the twos and was the best of the Mounties' bowlers, finishing with 3-36.
