MPCA young guns boost Sharks

14 Dec, 2011 03:00 AM
MORNINGTON Peninsula Cricket Association youngsters are strongly represented in all age groups in the South East Country Sharks representative teams.

Sharks under-18 team manager Wayne Ross said that despite poor weather hindering the selection committee's work, the squad included some of the brightest talent the region had to offer.

Heatherhill and Frankston Peninsula youngster Robert Salerni has been named captain of the team and Langwarrin and Victorian under-17 player Michael Edwards will be his deputy.

Top Dandenong Panthers prospect Anthony Northeast has also been included in the 13-man squad, which begins its campaign on January 9.

Several West Gippsland Cricket Association youngsters have also been included in the line-up to play the other regions in Victoria.

"We've selected our 13 with a bit of trouble because of the weather and things like that, which is similar to last year," Ross said.

"It is a pretty young team but I think that it is as good as we could have picked. We've got a trial game in a couple of Sundays' time against Gippsland so I guess we'll know more then."
