Jewell of a knock brings out the Heat in peninsula Twenty20 battle

01 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
FRANKSTON Peninsula Heat proved too strong in the annual Twenty20 clash with Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association at AH Butler Oval on Sunday, with former skipper Nick Jewell the man of the moment.

Jewell opened the batting for the Heat and combined with Sean Wilson for an 81-run opening stand, which came off just 51 balls.

Jewell hammered 57 with three fours and four sixes in his majestic knock and Wilson hit four fours and two sixes in his solid 37. The Heat finished with 4-171 and in reply the MPCA was bowled out for 147.

Moorooduc ace Bobby Wilson was the best MPCA batsman with a rapid-fire 73. But the match winner for Frankston Peninsula was Chris Dew, who snared 6-20, further pushing his claim for a regular senior pos-

ition.

The MPCA was rocked before the game by the withdrawal of Anthony Blackwell with an injury suffered on Saturday.

In the under-18s match MPCA defeated the Heat. After winning the toss MPCA finished 4-135 after recovering from 3-58 in the 13th over. MPCA's Kristian Miller was the hero, smashing 54 off 27 balls to earn man of the match honours.

The Heat finished 8-105 off its 20 overs with Nathan Cassano (31) and Jake Bardwell (20 not out) the pick of the batsmen.
