SOUTHERN Peninsula Sharks turned a nine-point half-time deficit into a seven-point victory over Altona Gators at Hillview Stadium in Rosebud on Saturday night in the Big V division 1 basketball competition.
Matthew Willmott shot 24 points and grabbed 8 rebounds and Todd Mitchell shot 19 with 9 rebounds to lead the Sharks to victory, the third from five outings. Yusef Smith added 9 points with a solid 13 rebounds and Phil Hickey netted 13 points.
The Sharks women's side went down 70-55 to Altona with Bridie Galea the top scorer for the locals with 10.
In division 2, Mornington Breakers have moved to first place on the ladder after downing La Trobe City 104-97 with the in-form Vlad Tankov shooting a staggering 34 points and taking 14 rebounds. Marcus Robinson followed suit with an impressive 28 points and 10 rebounds in the high scoring game played at Traralgon.
Cade Egan also excelled, shooting 20 points and 8 rebounds for the Breakers, who sit above Chelsea Gulls.
In the women's, Mornington's Rachael Wansbrough was a one-woman arsenal shooting 35 points and getting 37 rebounds in her team's 73-67 win over Melton, the first of the season.
