SOUTHERN Peninsula Sharks lost a nailbiting game against La Trobe University on Saturday night in the Big V division 1 basketball competition.
Carl Arts shot 28, Kyle Reid 17 and Phil Hickey 14 for the Sharks who are fifth on the ladder.
The Frankston Blues made it 15 from 15 on Saturday night, ending the Geelong Supercats' six-game winning run in the South East Australian Basketball League.
The Blues were without Mitch Chapman and Adam Nener, but prospered 128-115 despite being short-staffed. Andrew Harms was on fire with 34 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. followed by Rob Kampman with 33 points and 10 rebounds.
In what was easily the game of the round, the teams fought a physical and enthralling clash that included some great dunk.
Dave Gruber shot 20 points but saw the game out on the bench after suffering a knee injury.
Captain Grant Dennis and Todd Mitchell were strong in defence for the Blues with the former shooting 11 points and Mitchell chipping in with 10. Mike Runchey added 12 points and recent signing Ric Marczenko shot eight points including two quality three-pointers.
The Blues will meet Nunawading at Frankston at 8pm on Saturday and the Sharks play Bulleen at the Veneto Club at Bulleen at 8.30pm on Saturday.
