THE Southern Peninsula Sharks beat Warrnambool 81-70 in a Big V division 1 clash at Hillview Stadium on Saturday night.
The Sharks exploded out of the gate with a 29-14 point first quarter.
Despite a third-quarter rally, Warrnambool could not catch them.
Phil Hickey shot a solid 24 in 30 minutes of court time, followed by Michael De Luca (14) and Todd Mitchell (12, with 11 rebounds.
The Sharks are sitting fourth after winning three from five in the opening rounds.
The women's match with Warrnambool was a totally different affair, with the Sharks going down 83 to 51.
Nicole Stanley (11) was the only Southern player to reach double figures.
Division 2
MORNINGTON went down to McKinnon 73-68 and Latrobe City beat Western Port 90-84.
Chelsea beat Craigieburn 88-78 with star import and former NBA point guard Adonis Jordan scoring 28 points in 26 minutes on debut for the Gulls.
Western Port women beat Melton 71-46 away.
Mornington women went down 67-51 to Mckinnon.
In the SEABL competition, the Frankston Blues squandered their first-quarter lead over Canberra on Saturday night and went down 77-74.
The Blues' Rob Campman shot 27 points but a third-quarter, 31-point assault from the home team denied the Blues a chance to lift themselves from the bottom of the table.
The Sharks have a week off before an away double header against La Trobe and Werribee.
The women are at home against Warrandyte at Hillview Stadium at 7pm on Saturday, April 24.
