FRANKSTON Blues men's basketball team will have to settle for south conference premiers after being brought undone 125-98 by a rampant Knox Raiders in the SEABL grand final on Saturday night.
It is a bitter pill to swallow for the Frankston team, which had dominated the home and away series for two consecutive years to finish with no silverware.
The Blues fell away in the second quarter after being locked at 30 points apiece at the first break.
They were outscored by the Raiders in each of the remaining three quarters to suffer their biggest loss of the season.
Knox found form late in the season, their win over Brisbane's formidable Spartans in the semi-final in Brisbane heralding their ascent.
CJ Massingale top scored for Knox with 30 points followed by Lester Strong who shot 25 and was among the Raiders' best on the night.
Rob Kampman led the Blues' scoring with 22 followed by Mitch Chapman and Dave Gruber on 17 and Andrew Harms on 15.
The Blues lacked intensity in defence for one of the few times this season and were punished by the rampaging Raiders.
As some consolation, the Blues featured prominently at the league awards with Gruber picking up his third most valuable player in the conference followed closely by Harms in second place.
Billy Runchey was named the best coach for the second consecutive year while Gruber (centre) Harms (guard) and Kampman (forward) were named in the all-star side.
