MORNINGTON defeated Latrobe Uni 63-55 in a tough game in Division 2 Women on Saturday at the Breaker Dome.
Mornington's injury woes continued with Teegan Rolfe out of the line-up and the team needed to step up. And they did just that.
The Breakers were in front at the main break by nine points,
but in the last quarter it was the Eagles who edged back to one point down with five minutes left. However, when
the Breakers' tall timber started to tire, their coach called a time out and gambled on putting all his guards on to match the pace and run of the Eagles, which they did, pushing the game out to nine points and a well earned win.
Division 2 Men
MORNINGTON defeated Latrobe City 103-98 after struggling early against a very fast opposition.
The lead changed many times during the game and most of the time it was basket for basket.
In the fourth, Mornington found great team work and stole the win by five.
Youth League Men
ALTONA added more misery to the Breakers' season with a clinical 91-64 display against the bottom-placed Mornington, running out 27-point winners.
As the game wore on, Altona got better with each minute before winning comfortably.
Brad Guinto had easily his best game of the season with 27 points at a 68 per cent clip while pulling down 10 boards. He was helped as usual by Shaun Phelan who added 20 to the tally. For Mornington, Brenton Jewell caused headaches all night, putting in 17 points to save some face for the Breakers.
