MORNINGTON Retravision Breakers women's basketball team lost 57-62 to sixth-placed Camberwell Dragons on Saturday in a game that keeps both teams' finals aspirations alive.
Mornington got off to a blinding start, setting up a 14-point lead at the end of the first quarter.
By the halfway mark of the second quarter, things were looking pretty bad for the Dragons as the score blew out to 9-27.
Then the tide started to turn as the Dragons put on a 16-2 run to finish the half just four points behind.
A positive start to the second half saw the Dragons score the first two baskets to draw level, before Mornington started to
fight back and slowly built the lead back to seven at the final break.
The last quarter was an extremely exciting shootout as both teams traded baskets.
Six consecutive three-pointers were knocked down by both teams but Camberwell took the lead and was determined to keep it. They out-shot Mornington with a final quarter run 29-17.
A last-second buzzer-beater by Rachael Wansbrough brought the margin down to five and a disappointed Breakers team was left wondering what had happened.
