Breakers just too strong

MORNINGTON 77 defeated Melton 55 in the Division 2 women's basketball competition on the weekend.

Rachael Wansbrough, Teegan Rolfe and Ashley McSweeney all had big offensive games for the Mornington Breakers as they steamrolled the Melton Lady Thoroughbreds by 22 points at the Melton Indoor Recreation Centre on Saturday night.

Winning the rebound count 49-42 and outscoring Melton in the paint 36- 24, the Breakers were just too big and too strong.

■ Division 2 men: The Mornington Breakers have snapped the Cougars finals dream with a 26-point thumping on the back of a big last quarter to win 97-71.

After staying in touch for most of the game, the Cougars simply run out of steam as Mornington ran rampant.

Vlad Tankov did whatever he wanted inside posting 22 points while Marcus Robinson was at his explosive best with 35 points and six steals. If that wasn't enough, Cade Egan set himself up the corners to drill four triples for 14 points.

■ Youth League Div 2 men: Whittlesea 71 defeated Mornington 63.

Mornington was yet again unable to play four full quarters, allowing Whittlesea to overpower it in the fourth quarter after what had been a close game throughout.
