THE Call to Arms Big V final series is over and the Mornington Breakers put in their all to force the Division 2 men's final series against the Chelsea Gulls to game three last Sunday.
Going down in game one by nine points the week prior, the Breakers needed the win on Saturday night to force the third and final game on Sunday.
A crowd of almost 500 packed the Mornington Basketball stadium to see a fantastic game of basketball played at a high pace and skill level.
Trailing early, The Breakers dug deep and with good numbers coming off the bench, pushed the Gulls all the way. With a timely three from big man Vlad Tankov with minutes remaining brought the Mornington crowd to their feet and the Breakers took the lead to hold on and win by two points, forcing a deciding match the next day.
On Sunday the faithful returned with another sell-out crowd and a battle for the Division 2 championship on the line.
Chelsea again started out with a good lead, forcing the Breakers into early errors and taking the first quarter 27-16.
In the second quarter the Mornington crew dug deep and reversed the situation going in to the half-time break down by three with a second-quarter run of 16-8.
In the second half either team would give an inch with both teams finishing the third 19 apiece and setting up an all-out assault in the last term.
Both teams were in a battle, with Chelsea getting the edge on the back of a higher free throw percentage in the dying stages, winning the Division 2 championship by four points, winning 68-64.
