BASKETBALL rivalries are always intense, and none more so than the Mornington Breakers and the Chelsea Gulls in the Big V League's division 2 men and women.
This week, it's the Gulls with the bragging rights after they descended on the Breakers' stadium at the weekend, winning the men's and women's games, 102-80 and 70-41 respectively.
There was a bigger than normal crowd at the Mornington Stadium for the derby games and they had high hopes until the better-shooting Chelsea sides pulled away in the second half of both games.
The win puts the Gulls on top of the men's ladder with Mornington second while Mornington is seventh on the women's ladder where Chelsea are second, just behind McKinnon.
■ This Sunday, the Breakers men meet Blackburn at home on Sunday at 2pm.
