CARL Arts continued his run of top form shooting 34 points from 37 minutes' court time in the Southern Peninsula Sharks' 115-91 win over title championship contenders Sherbrook in the Big V division 1 competition.
Matthew Willmott was solid in offence shooting 24, including five three-pointers, but he had a greater impact defensively by keeping Sherbrook's Big V all-star Josh Smith at bay throughout the match.
Sharks coach Mark Tidd said his whole side played well defensively against sherbrook who were undefeated in the home and away series last year.
"We had a meeting last week to discuss what we needed to work on and we went out on Saturday and put all that into practice,'' Tidd said.
In the Big V division 3 Mornington went down to McKinnon 56-91 while Western Port had the bye.
Frankston Blues basketball team dropped their first game of the 2009 SEABL season, losing to the bottom-of-the-ladder Nunawading Spectres.
The Blues threw away a 27-point lead to go down 81-83 to the Spectres, who will no doubt cherish knocking off the indomitable Blues, who had won the opening 16 rounds.
Rob Kampman stood out for the Blues in attack, scoring 30 points in what was a physical contest.
The Blues sorely missed David Gruber, who is recovering from a knee injury.
The Blues are in Brisbane this weekend to take on the Brisbane Spartans, who are difficult to tackle at their home court.
The Sharks are at home again at 2pm Sunday when they meet Werribee at Hillview Stadium in Rosebud while Mornington is away to Keysborough and Western Port is home to Melton.
