PENINSULA residents have been warned to "use it or lose it" with the introduction of a free trial bus service between Mornington and Hastings.
The cross-peninsula bus service started on Tuesday and runs every Tuesday and Thursday during April.
Mornington Peninsula Shire transport connections co-ordinator Kris Smallacombe said continuation of the service would depend on patronage during the trial. "Word about it [the trial service] is getting about fast and I am confident there will be enough people who use it."
Among those celebrating the trial are members of the transport action group, part of the Neighbourhood Renewal project based at Hastings Community Hub.
The service will start in Reid Parade, Hastings, with stops at Pelican Park Recreation Centre, King Street, the Community Health Services centre in High Street, the Community Hub, Graydens Road, Devilbend golf course, Moorooduc fire station and Mornington racecourse before terminating in Main Street, Mornington.
Buses will leave Reid Parade at 10.20am and 2.15pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, arriving in Mornington at 10.55am and 2.50pm. The service leaves Mornington at 9.05am and 1.05pm, finishing in Reid Parade at 9.40am and 1.40pm, connecting with services to Frankston and Flinders. Details: www.mornpen.vic.g ov.au
