BALNARRING has a star in its midst as Thomas Carr tries his luck in the kitchen for the latest season of My Kitchen Rules.
He says it has been a whirlwind experience that has kept him out of mischief and added a bit of spice back into his life.
The 25 year old was looking for something different to do after returning to Australia from a trip to Europe.
The former Padua College student achieved that aim when he auditioned for the show with Carla Mangion, a friend from university.
"I thought it would be an advantage to have a female partner," he said. "It is always good to have a woman's touch."
Carr said cooking was something he had gotten into later in life and made a change from his everyday job as a podiatrist.
"I love to eat and cooking is just a ramification of that," he said. "Unless you are willing to eat out every night of the week you have to be able to cook."
Carr conceded that cooking in front of 10 television cameras and crew was a different experience.
"It is so much pressure," he said. "You make a basic dish at home and it is easy but then you are put in this hectic environment and it is really hard - you have so many things on your mind other than cooking."
Carr said he had made some friends and avoided making too many enemies. "I have made some amazing friends who I will stay in touch with but there are some people I would rather not see again."
Carr settled in to watch the series when it started airing on Channel Seven on Monday this week. The episode featuring his kitchen will screen soon after.
