Technology used in porn raid

28 Jul, 2010 12:00 AM
THREE men have been charged following a child pornography raid in the Frankston area, with more arrests expected to follow.

Sophisticated technology was used by police to target five homes raided by detectives from the sexual crimes squad, e-crime squad and Frankston crime investigation unit last Wednesday.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Busuttil of Frankston CIU said a 61-year-old of Frankston North and a 42-year-old of Seaford were charged with possessing child exploitation material and bailed to appear before the Frankston Magistrates' Court on August 31.

A 48-year-old Carrum Downs man is expected to be charged on summons with the same offence.

Detective Busuttil said: "The technology is there and will be used more frequently now. Inquiries from this operation are continuing."

Police confiscated computer hard drives and other material during the raid.

Detective Inspector Glenn Davies of the sexual crimes squad said the arrests were the culmination of months of work by police, including the squad's internet child exploitation team.

He said the technology used allowed police to target specific, geographical areas "and this was used to track down those arrested".

Phone information about sexual crimes to Crime Stoppers on 1800333 000.
