THE prestigious Honda technician of the year award has been won by Mornington man Geoffrey Mentiplay.
Mr Mentiplay, from Peninsula Honda, competed against technicians from all over the country.
A shocked and delighted Mr Mentiplay has been a finalist five times.
"In 2009 I was able to beat the stiff competition to be announced winner of the Honda technician of the year," Mr Mentiplay said.
The technicians have to complete three multiple-choice exams throughout the year.
If they are able to achieve a high enough score to be in the top five in Australia, they then get to go to Honda Australia in Tullamarine to compete for technician of the year.
The top five finalists are flown into Melbourne and put up at the Hilton for two nights to compete for the award.
The presentation was held at the Melbourne Convention Centre.
It was a very formal evening, where Mr Mentiplay was awarded with a large trophy, a new Toshiba laptop worth in excess of $3000 and a tool voucher for $350.
Mr Mentiplay has been with Honda for more than 25 years and has been a resident of the peninsula all his life.
