Site concern, but Aldi set to open at Somerville

20 May, 2009 06:11 PM
GERMAN discount supermarket giant Aldi will open a Somerville branch next year despite contamination concerns over the site.

The company is also looking for other sites on the peninsula and is believed to be considering a store on the Bata site at the corner of Nepean Highway and Oakbank Road, Mornington.

Work at the site in Frankston-Flinders Road, Somerville, was halted when concerns were

raised over possible contamination left after the service station closed.

Aldi public relations spokeswoman Kate Gittings said the site had been "remediated" and the store remained on track for a mid-2010 opening.
