Mornington Cup: Come on, join in the richest day

09 Feb, 2012 02:05 PM
MORNINGTON Cup day is the richest non-metropolitan race day in Victoria — and the second-richest in Australia — with more than $800,000 in prize money on offer.

Carrying prize money of $300,000, the cup itself, at listed level, is Victoria’s richest country cup.

The listed Hareeba Stakes, added to the Mornington Cup Day card in 2000, is one of the state’s premier non-metropolitan sprints and is worth $100,000.

Mornington Cup day was also strengthened last year with the addition of the $250,000 Inglis Premier for two year-olds.

Gates open at 10am next Wednesday, with the first race at noon and the last at 5.20pm. Tickets can be pre-purchased at Steeples Mornington or by calling 59753310. Adults: $25; concession, $20; children under 15 admitted free.

Free public parking is available around the racecourse. Entry is via gate 3 in Racecourse Road and parking gates open at 11am.

A taxi rank will operate from the Mornington racecourse public car park from 4pm.

Entrants in the fashions on the field have the chance to win prizes worth more than $70,000. The categories are: stylish ladies (18-39 years old), stylish ladies (40 and over), stylish gentlemen, and marvellous millinery. Millinery is also mandatory for all categories.

To register and ensure a place in fashion on the field heats, go to melbourneracingclub.net.au, read through the terms and conditions and return the registration form by 5pm next Monday.

Registration will also be available on the day from 10.30am-12.30pm next to the fashion stage. Once the heats are full, registration will close, so get in quickly to secure a place.

Entry is restricted to those aged 18 and over.
