ROSEBUD police have arrested a man who was allegedly driving with a blood alcohol reading almost five times over the legal
limit.
The 38-year-old Rosebud West man was seen driving on the wrong side of Point Nepean Road when his vehicle collided
with a Ford Territory travelling in the
opposite direction about 4.15pm last Thursday.
The Ford had five occupants including three children, none of whom were injured.
The man stopped his vehicle about 400metres along the road and was arrested by police.
He was taken to Rosebud police station where police say he recorded a blood alcohol reading of .248.
He was released on summons and is expected to be charged with conduct endangering life, conduct endangering people, exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol, driving in a dangerous manner and careless driving.
Senior Sergeant Michael Lamb of Rosebud police said: "We are lucky today that five people, including three innocent children, weren't killed at the hands of a severely impaired driver.
"The matter is being treated as a serious criminal offence and I will be looking to charge him accordingly."
The incident follows the arrest of a Doveton man aged 20 on January 11 who was driving at 150kmh on the wrong side of the Mornington Peninsula Freeway between Jetty Road, Rosebud, and the Lonsdale Street overpass in McCrae.
The driver will be charged on summons for drink-driving, speeding and conduct endangering life.
He had his car impounded for 48 hours and his licence has been suspended.
