It's no porky pie: Hamish is a charmer

30 Jun, 2010 12:00 AM
TWO pigs with big personalities charmed visitors at the Mt Eliza farmers market on Sunday.

Hamish, who can sit on command and offer a trotter for a handshake, was joined by pretty Polly the piglet.

Both porkers are from Edgar's Mission Farm Sanctuary in Kilmore - home to more than 200 rescued farm animals once destined for the dinner table.

"People are so surprised and amazed to see how clever Hamish is," Edgar's Mission founder Pam Ahern said.

"But step inside a pig's world for just a moment and you cannot help but be touched by their wit and charm. That they are cheeky, fun loving and oh so intelligent is not lost on all who are fortunate enough to meet them."

Ms Ahern and her animal ambassadors regularly visit markets to spread their message of kindness for animals.
