THE Department of Sustainability and Environment will hold public meetings early next month in Rosebud and Frankston to present its fire plans for the next two years.
Nick Ryan of DSE said that every year the department and Parks Victoria prepared plans for fire operations for public land, parks, forests and reserves.
"They show where we intend to do burning and other fire prevention works such as improving the networks of fuel breaks. We want everyone to have a chance to hear about our plans.
"Planned burning on its own cannot stop a fire completely but is a valuable tool for protecting communities. The DSE is aware burns can impact the community, particularly during autumn when calm, ideal burning conditions mean smoke hangs around. We want to sit down with people and inform them about the draft three-year rolling plans for the Mornington Peninsula and Frankston areas, so we can work together with the community."
Residents can speak to someone about planned works and view and comment on the draft plan on:
■Wednesday, August 4 (5-8pm) at Parks Victoria office, Hinton Street, Rosebud.
■Wednesday, August 11 (5-8pm) at Frankston Football Club's Platinum Room, Plowman Place, Frankston.
