Fayre serves up a feast

28 Oct, 2009 12:46 PM

THE best local food, wine, art and music the Macedon Ranges has to offer will be on show this weekend.

The annual Malmsbury Village Fayre will be held at the town hall and the 150-year-old Malmsbury Botanic Gardens from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

Residents and tourists are expected to descend on the historic town, which is home to an increasing number of artists, musicians, galleries, and wineries.

Supported by Macedon Ranges Council, the Malmsbury General Store and the Taste of Gold Food and Wine Trail, this year the event will feature a Fayre Cafe with renowned chef Charlotte Duckett, who has worked at the Stokehouse, Gourlay's and the George Melbourne Wine Room, designing a three-course menu.

Fayre committee secretary Nea Gyorffy said good food and fine wine including beer, wine, olives, olive oils, cheeses, chocolates, preserves and puddings, would again be the main feature.

She said the event, now in its eighth year, continued to grow.

"It's grown to more than 40 exhibits and we get about 2000 to 3000 people. The botanic gardens are a big drawcard because it's such a beautiful venue.

"It is such an interesting, heritage town and we have a lot of people actively promoting arts and music now."

Among the highlights will be local musician Andy Rigby , who will run hands-on marimba-playing workshops. The Malmsbury Historical Society will offer information about the town's rich heritage.
