Click for the teddies

TRAUMA teddies are urgently needed by Balnarring Red Cross for its care program at hospitals. Hundreds of soft teddies are given to children as comforters in the emergency departments at Frankston and Rosebud.

Volunteers are needed to help knit the soft teddies. Knitting patterns, wool and needles can be provided.

Members of Red Cross units will stuff and label teddies according to Red Cross regulations.

Balnarring unit co-ordinator Rosemary Jones said: "We just require volunteers to help us knit them. A good knitting project over the holiday period perhaps.

"The teddies can be knitted in any colours and embroidered with a cheery face - no button eyes or noses that little children might swallow."

Santa Trauma Teddies (in black, white and red) are also needed.

The Balnarring Red Cross unit welcomes new members. Call the secretary on 5989 8933.

Anyone with unwanted 8ply or 4ply wool and unwanted knitting needles can leave them at The Mail office, 2168 Frankston-Flinders Road, Hastings, for others to knit. Completed teddies can be left at the office where Santa patterns and Trauma Teddy patterns also will be available. The Red Cross Trauma Teddy and Santa Trauma Teddy pattern can be emailed by return from fran.henke@fairfaxmedia.com.au
